Looking Unto Jesus
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith... Hebrews 12:2
In Matthew 14:22-33 we read of the time when Christ’s disciples were out on the Sea of Galilee being tossed about by a tempestuous storm. They were afraid for their lives, but Jesus appeared to them, walking on the water, and told them not to be afraid.
Peter, wanting to reassure himself, said “Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.” Jesus said, “Come,” and so Peter stepped out of the ship and onto the water, and began to go to Jesus.
“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” Matthew 14:29-31
They got back into the ship, and when they did, the raging storm that had terrified the disciples so greatly immediately ceased (verse 32 and Mark 6:51) and there was perfect peace. Not only that, they immediately found themselves at shore (John 6:21) — they had reached their destination in an instant!
From time to time, we all face storms of one sort or another. Trouble is just a part of life. But the next time you find yourself in the midst of a storm, I want you to remember to keep your eyes on Jesus.
As long as Peter followed the Master’s instruction, he was STANDING on top of the water, troubled as it was. But when Peter took His eyes off of Jesus, and when he began to look at the tempest all around him, he began to SINK DOWN into that water.
What He was focused on began to consume him! And it is the same with us.
What you are focused on will consume you. So you can either focus on the STORM, or you can focus on the LORD JESUS CHRIST. What will you do?
I challenge you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Because when you do, the storms of life cannot harm you. You will be on top of the storm. Christ will be with you and will uphold you, and He will see you safely to the other side. Trust Him.
