What Shall We Do?
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:8-10 We are at a time of great national distress. No one alive can remember a worse time of national distress and division as what we are witnessing, and all indications are, it is going to get worse. Our national sins have risen high above our heads, and that sin has a consequence. Like the law of gravity, it cannot be changed and it cannot be avoided. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. We have sown the wind, and we are reaping the whirlwind. What shall we do? In our pitiful state, our hope may be found in God’s Word. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; the
