What Shall We Do?
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:8-10
We are at a time of great national distress. No one alive can remember a worse time of national distress and division as what we are witnessing, and all indications are, it is going to get worse.
Our national sins have risen high above our heads, and that sin has a consequence. Like the law of gravity, it cannot be changed and it cannot be avoided.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. We have sown the wind, and we are reaping the whirlwind.
What shall we do?In our pitiful state, our hope may be found in God’s Word.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
This is our only pathway to blessing. It is a sure thing. God has given us His promise, and He always keeps His Word. But will we do it?
As I look at our people today, I see that we are not humble, we are not seeking Him above all else, and we have some incredibly vile and wicked ways. We are at least praying, but our prayers mainly have to do with what we want God to do for us. We are not praying according to His Will.
People of God, do you want God to come to our aide? If so, we need to get serious about 2 Chronicles 7:14 and we need to do it now, for the time is short!
Merciful Father in Heaven, send a spirit of repentance among your people, that we may turn from our wicked ways and live!
“Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” Psalms 50:15
