O How I Love Thy Law

O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.  Psalms 119:97

So many in the church today have set aside the Law of God as being unimportant.  They say it was nailed to the cross and that we don’t need to worry about keeping the Law anymore, that the work of Christ on the cross did away with the Law.

Certain aspects of the Law, contained in ordinances and involving the Levitical sacrifices, were indeed fulfilled by Christ’s work on the cross.  For example, we need no longer sacrifice a lamb because Jesus Christ was the Lamb of God.  In fact, Christ was ALL of the sacrifices rolled into one on that cross.  But Christ’s work on the cross did NOT do away with God’s Law.

Jesus Himself said “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 5:17-19

So then, if we are to believe Christ, the Law of God is vitally important.  It is the catalyst through which we receive the blessings of God!  “Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”  Psalm 19:11

I have a question for you.  How would you like to flourish and be fruitful and prosper in everything that you do?  I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty good to me!  Well, the Bible gives us the recipe for that abundant life . . .

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  BUT HIS DELIGHT IS IN THE LAW OF THE LORD; AND IN HIS LAW DOTH HE MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”  Psalm 1:1-3

Don’t discard the Law of God—treasure it.  He gave us His Law “for our good always.”  (Deuteronomy 6:1-2, 24-25), and we discard it to our own peril.

I challenge you to delight yourself in the Law of God today, and to declare with the Psalmist, “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.”  Psalm 119:97
