The Greatest Need of the Day Is Repentance
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
There is much talk today about the need for prayer and revival. Prayer is indeed essential, and if there was ever a desperate need for revival, it is in this dark and evil day.
But prayers will not be heard, nor will revival ever come, without genuine heartfelt repentance and obedience on the part of God’s people.
In our text, God gives clear instruction for revival and blessing.
First of all, He says, “If my people, which are called by my name . . .” This message is to God’s people only. No other people can ask for revival and it be given except God’s people. It is they who can bend His ear regarding this matter, and they only.
God’s instruction to His people is that we must humble ourselves. There can be no prideful arrogance about us, no conceit, no boasting. Humility is of great importance to the LORD, as repentance will never come without it.
Our prayers must go up to heaven in humility and our desire must be to seek His pleasure and not our own. We must empty ourselves of ourselves and turn from our wicked ways. This is imperative.
When we divest ourselves of our own wants and desires, when we empty ourselves of self and seek after Him with our whole heart, when we come before Him broken and repentant, not seeking our own but seeking His Will, then and only then will revival come.
May God be pleased to draw us close to His side and to pour out upon us the spirit of repentance. May we mourn over our sins and turn to Him, that He might bless us, and send to us times of refreshing and renewal!
“Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.” Psalm 85:6-7
“. . . Quicken us, and we will call upon thy name. Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.” Psalm 80:18-19
Amen!
Humbleness and humility are indeed in need right now! TY Pastor Kemble!
