It’s All About Jesus

“And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.  And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.  And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.”  Revelation 5:11-14

We have here before us an awesome scene.

The imagery of Revelation chapters four and five is ripe with symbolism, types and shadows, but what leaps out at me is the fact that our Lord Jesus Christ is the center of everything.

“. . . Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me.”  Psalm 40:7

The whole Bible is about Him, and He is called, “The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13).  And we are instructed to make God’s Word the center of our very lives:

“Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.  And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.  And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates.”  Deuteronomy 11:18-20

Jesus was called Emmanuel, the manifestation of God with us, or the presence of God; and the bewildered multitudes said of Him, “Never spake man like this man!”  He is the Tabernacle in the wilderness — He is seen in every utensil and every object — and that Tabernacle was in the center of the camp, with the tribes of Israel encamped round about.  Likewise, our lives, our thoughts, our desires should all revolve around the Lord Jesus Christ.

We keep ourselves busy with all kinds of things that don’t matter at all, and we will argue about the most insignificant of things, but in the end, all of it will vanish away, and the only thing that will be left of any value will be our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Word.

He said, “I AM Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.”  He was before all, and He will be there at the end, and He is everything in between; and in Him alone doth everything hold together.

It’s all about Him.

There is an old saying that used to appear on small framed pictures at the five and dime, which goes, “Only one life, soon will be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” 

Let us stop filling our lives with things that don’t matter, and look at the big picture.  

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”  Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Amen.  Lord help us so to do.

From Someone Who Lived There

As I write this, I am somewhat numb.  Anyone who has followed my ministry for a while knows that until 2018 my family and I lived in Uvalde, Texas. When I moved to Uvalde, I was fresh out of college.  My whole life was in front of me and I was ablaze with the fire of youthful zeal and enthusiasm.  I had answered the call of God to preach just a few years prior to attending college, and had served as a youth minister at a couple of churches in central and southwest Texas during and prior to college, then God called me to minister to the youth of Uvalde full time.  We held youth meetings and Bible Studies there, and in the surrounding area, as well as several area-wide evangelistic meetings, from 1986 until 2018, when the LORD called us up to Michigan to start a church. Were You There?

There is an old song that goes “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?  Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble!” If you had been there that dreadful day, watching our Lord and Master as He hung there, stripped and bleeding upon that cruel cross — what would you have done? Would you have run away and hidden as so many of His disciples had done?  They ran for fear of their lives.  They had followed Him, and for all they knew, they would die with Him.  This one who had given such words of wisdom and hope!  How could this be happening? Would you have disassociated yourself from Him as sharply as Peter had done earlier that day?  He vehemently denied the charge that He knew Christ, and then trembled in horror and disgrace as he heard the cock crow, for His Lord had foretold it.
