As I write this, I am somewhat numb.  Anyone who has followed my ministry for a while knows that until 2018 my family and I lived in Uvalde, Texas. When I moved to Uvalde, I was fresh out of college.  My whole life was in front of me and I was ablaze with the fire of youthful zeal and enthusiasm.  I had answered the call of God to preach just a few years prior to attending college, and had served as a youth minister at a couple of churches in central and southwest Texas during and prior to college, then God called me to minister to the youth of Uvalde full time.  We held youth meetings and Bible Studies there, and in the surrounding area, as well as several area-wide evangelistic meetings, from 1986 until 2018, when the LORD called us up to Michigan to start a church. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:8-10 We are at a time of great national distress.  No one alive can remember a worse time of national distress and division as what we are witnessing, and all indications are, it is going to get worse. Our national sins have risen high above our heads, and that sin has a consequence.  Like the law of gravity, it cannot be changed and it cannot be avoided. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.  We have sown the wind, and we are reaping the whirlwind. What shall we do? “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”   2 Chronicles 7:14 There is much talk today about the need for prayer and revival.  Prayer is indeed essential, and if there was ever a desperate need for revival, it is in this dark and evil day. But prayers will not be heard, nor will revival ever come, without genuine heartfelt repentance and obedience on the part of God’s people. In our text, God gives clear instruction for revival and blessing. First of all, He says, “If my people, which are called by my name . . .”   This message is to God’s people only.  No other people can ask for revival and it be given except God’s people.  It is they who can bend His ear regarding this matter, and they only. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.  Psalms 119:97 So many in the church today have set aside the Law of God as being unimportant.  They say it was nailed to the cross and that we don’t need to worry about keeping the Law anymore, that the work of Christ on the cross did away with the Law. Certain aspects of the Law, contained in ordinances and involving the Levitical sacrifices, were indeed fulfilled by Christ’s work on the cross.  For example, we need no longer sacrifice a lamb because Jesus Christ was the Lamb of God.  In fact, Christ was ALL of the sacrifices rolled into one on that cross.  But Christ’s work on the cross did NOT do away with God’s Law. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith...  Hebrews 12:2 In Matthew 14:22-33 we read of the time when Christ’s disciples were out on the Sea of Galilee being tossed about by a tempestuous storm.  They were afraid for their lives, but Jesus appeared to them, walking on the water, and told them not to be afraid.
